GreenPower Motor Company manufactures a complete line of medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles, which include models with lower and high floors. The EV Star Cab & Chassis is their flagship vehicle, and can be adapted to suit a variety of applications. The platform's design philosophy of clean sheets allows for the optimal placement of battery packs and a lower center of gravity, resulting in higher payload to range ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was developed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries and catering applications. The refrigerated truck's class 4 design's one wall structure inside and higher insulation compared to traditional trucks allow for seamless sanitation, improved temperature control and a more extended life. The EV Star REEFERX provides superior capacity for cargo and a payload that is industry-leading to range for zero-emission goods or passenger transportation.
GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems that will enable fleets to easily make the transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star is also capable of wireless charging up to 75 kW.
We were capable of testing the EV9 on a local highway for several hours and found it easy to drive and comfortable to drive over long distances. The ride is smooth on bumps and ruts, while the EV9 does an excellent job of suppressing the sound of traffic and wind on the highway. The acceleration of the vehicle is astonishingly quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes that permit "one-pedal driving" simply by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 has a wide range and can be recharged within three hours or less at home, or with any commercial charger. The driver can choose from two operating modes: eco mode and sport mode. The eco mode prioritizes the torque and cruise control and the sport mode maximizes speed and handling. Both modes are enjoyable to drive and provide a unique experience for those who haven't experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose all-electric mini bus, called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used as executive shuttles, microtransit or transit vanpools, buses, or paratransit vehicles.
greenpower mobility produces approximately 10 EV Star busses a month for Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their older diesel vehicles fleet with 100 electric cars. With the Biden Administration looking to electrify school buses nationwide, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet demand. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be Altoona-tested and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA certified. This means they will be eligible for federal assistance in transit.
